Will The Tea Party Disappear Should The Economy Improve?

In a recent interview with Sundays Meet The Press Senator Reid, (D, NV), said the following
SENATOR HARRY REID: The Tea Party was born because of the economy. The economy is probably the worst it's ever been except for maybe the Great Depression. The Tea Party will disappear as soon as the economy gets better and the economy is getting better all the time.
In light of the Senators statement a review of the brief but astonishing history of the Tea Party and subsequent political events may provide a more critical analysis of the future of the Tea Party. The Tea Party responded to the massive Tarp spending in January of 2009, President Obama's first month in office, with the bailouts. Then came the nationalizing of banks and an auto company.
President Obama and the Democrats attempted to rush through nationalized healthcare before the August, 2009 Congressional recess. Next came the town hall meetings where people found out that Congress was not listening to their constituents. What followed was an outpouring of conservative and independent patriotic Americans who Marched on Washington on 9/12/2009 with an estimated 1 million or more people showing up. They were promptly mocked by then Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D, Ca) and other Democrats.
Later in November 2009 came Michelle Bachman's “House Call” to the capitol with around 50,000 people showing up with a three day notice. As the year moved on came all of the Senate rule changes and back-room deals. Next came the earmark payoffs and more rule changes. In March, 2010 hundreds of thousands attended the “Kill the Bill” rally over a two day period. About 60 percent of the American people composed of Conservatives, Republicans, Democrats and Independents were against the nationalizing of healthcare but the Democrats passed the bill anyway. Later it was learned that the Legislators did not even read the bill and as a matter of routine they usually do not read bills they vote on.
The next major Bill that passed was the financial bill which was unpopular with the American people. It was found that a lot of what was in the Bills was not constitutional.
In November 2010 came the election and the voters spoke vociferously by transforming the House from a Democrat Party majority to a huge Republican Party majority. This was the greatest changeover in the House in 70 years. And a revolutionary turnover that rarely occurs in American politics. After the election came the lame duck session where the Congress repealed DADT. This was yet another unpopular vote with the American people.
Subsequently government commissions like the EPA and FCC and others attempted to impose regulations on the American people as if these regulations were laws passed by Congress.
So what started out as a protest against big government spending and a poor economy ended up shocking main stream Americans when they learned about the tone deafness of their elected representatives, the extent of government corruption, unconstitutional lawmaking and, as they see it, dictating through regulation instead of legislating according to the will of the people.
The American people, represented by Tea Party members and their supporters are fully aware that Congress is not governing with the consent of the governed as is mandated in the Constitution. I think Senator Reid may be hoping that people will go back to sleep.
What is more likely after this awakening is that the American people will be even more engaged in how their Legislators govern. If so politics will never be the same again in Washington.
